Martha, Yasmin, Jamie and Sam live in a shared apartment in Kreuzberg. Martha is from France, Yasmin from Germany, Jamie from the U.S. and Sam from Cameroon. They sit in their kitchen, cook for each other and dance together. But, compared to his flatmates, Sam left his country, because he needed to take refuge. The camera subtly catches the inequity that evolves between the four characters. Club Europe is a film about millennials who want to act more supportive and altruistic than their parents and need to face the question how far they really want to go in order to help.

The Italian producer Enrico Ghezzi commissioned the movie to Jean-Marie Straub and Danièle Huillet to celebrate Roberto Rossellini's centenary. Asked to imagine a moment in the life or the death of Ingrid Bergman's character in Europa '51, their reading of Rossellini yielded this political pamphlet about the death of two Parisian youngsters who, chased by the police, hid in a high-voltage electric transformer and burned to death. Less than three weeks after their death, the banlieus were burning.

“It all started when I Googled my name” said Killeen of his movie. Whether an effort to defeat the innumerable self-imposed social barriers erected since the advent of the Internet or out of sheer and simple curiosity, the result is nevertheless telling and enormously entertaining – as well as a provoking commentary on today’s society and how technology has transformed our lives. Due to the premise of the film, Jim Killeen is likely to become a household name. By employing the single yet powerfully intimate common denominator of a person’s name, “Google Me” succeeds in exploring the philosophical subject of identity itself as well as the underlying human conditions that unite us all.
